Final farewell to Anthony Yeo

I took this picture of Anthony Yeo in 2005. He was one of the speakers at a public forum on the death penalty, Night of Solidarity. I remember telling someone Kitaro has taken to the mike or something to that effect! 🙂

I was taken aback when i first heard about his cancer about a week ago. This morning came the news that he passed away yesterday 20 June 09 (Sat). He was 60.

I’m lost for words when i get such news. Just like when i got news about an acquaintance of mine who was diagnosed with another type of cancer in May 09 and was given about 3mths more to live.

Even though he was known as the “father of counselling”, I got to know about him mostly through such forums and letters he wrote in defense of M. Ravi and Chee Soon Juan, here and here.

This is an announcement from the Counselling & Care Centre where he was Clinical Director.

Anthony Yeo is now in eternal rest. He passed away peacefully on 20 Jun 2009 with his beloved wife and children by his side. There was a private send off with only family members present. That was how he wanted it.

Many will mourn and grieve the loss of a man who had given his life to be present for others. Although his physical presence is no longer with us, he remains in the words that he wrote and the many lives he touched.

Even in his passing, his thoughts are for others. Anthony had requested that there be no wreaths and all donations be given to Counselling and Care Centre, unless specified for the family (cheque written to “Lee Soo Lan”).

Those who wish to send their heartfelt condolences can do so at the Counselling and Care Centre from 23 to 25 Jun 2009 from 9am to 5.30pm. You may also wish to sign the online condolence book.

As we grieve over the loss of Anthony, let us also remember the life he lived and added to others.

  1. I am from the Philippines and was also saddened by news of Anthony’s death. Felt led to write my own humble tribute of how he was used of GOd to impact my life.

Yes we will miss him, and take comfort in knowing that we will see him again someday.
