48hr Hunger Strike at Hong Lim Park

Photos: 48hr hunger strike ends; over 800 people sign petitions

I managed to go down today for the end of one-man’s 48hr hunger strike and petition drive.

I spoke to Mr Rajasegaran while I was there. He was in very good spirits. He was amazed and encouraged by the support he received from people over the 48hr period.

Quite a number came down personally to show their support while others called or sms-ed him to express their support.

Over 800 people signed the three petitions to the UN, Singapore & Sri Lanka governments. A remarkable number given how little publicity there was to this event. See the 3 petitions here, here and here.

This hunger strike & petition drive may have ended today. But its not over till its over as Mr Rajasegaran hopes to organise another event or two to raise awareness about the plight of thousands of victims of Sri Lanka’s war especially the government’s refusal to allow full and immediate humanitarian access.

Here are the photos i took while i was there. Click on the photos for the big picture, literally.

  1. Tch! I wish i had known about this as i would definitely have gone down last night. I wish there was a way we could be kept informed of all demonstrative events at Hong Lim park.

Thank you for this information, and effort.

  3. Greetings Jacob,

Thank you very much for the information. Most helpful indeed.

Your site is definitely in my ‘must-read’ bookmark folder.

By the way, I was just wondering, are you a ’69er’ because you’re born in ’69?

Keep up the great work mate.
